The cost of Winlink equipment can be substantial. PACTOR I is not recommended at all, because it is just too slow. The Windows 2000 people recommend the PACTOR III modem. There will be emergencies where Winlink would be useful -- but will that emergency be in you area? Will you be available on that particular date at that particular place to use your expensive Winlink equipment? Do you really want to spend this much of your own money for a system that you may never use in an emergency? Or would you rather spend that money for another rig or two or three?
