Message Format
Slide 13 of 16
What format will be used to send the traffic? Here is a suggestion that uses the ARRL Radiogram as a basis. It provides for content accuracy, message tracking, and accountability.
Note that routing data has been added to keep track of the hams that handled the message before it was entered into normal email channels on the Internet.
There is an additional strength to this system of sending email with a complete geographical address as in a normal Radiogram that is not readily evident at first glance. Winlink 2000 uses regular email with all its strengths and weaknesses: Did the ISP send the email to a real email address (address failure problem)? Did the email get past the spam filters of the recipient’s mailbox? Was the recipient actually there where they could act on the email? Were they so bogged down with other emergency details that they had not had time to log on and read their emails? Or were they on vacation 1,000 miles away trying to read their email over the Internet? Delivery to the geographical address and phone number avoids the inherent weakness of email.
