Do you have to use Digipan? No, any PSK31 or PSK63 software program that will generate audible sound tones can be used. Digipan is recommended for several reasons: (1) it is a free 700K download (about 30 seconds for cable or DSL); (2) it is extremely simple to use--so simple that you could tell someone over the radio how to download it and then teach them how to use it in the same QSO; (3) it is a complete and amazing program by the inventor of PSK 31 and PSK63 that can send and receive at 100 words per minute on 24 simultaneous frequencies; (4) it is very robust-- send and receive on the same frequency and at the same time while you are talking on the radio; and (5) it can even be used over a combination radio and /or telephone lines at the same time.
