Program Ideas-- Frankie
Frankie informed the club that due to some unforeseen circumstances, the program for August had to be canceled. Frankie took this time instead to open the floor for some ideas for future programs. Here are the ideas that were mentioned as possible future program topics in order that they were brought up.
1.) QRP Operations
2.) Getting into digital modes
3.) Packet Radio
4.) Fox Hunting
5.) More Emergency Communications Procedures
6.) Message Handling Rules
7.) Certification for ARES/RACES
8.) Linux Basics
9.) Virtual Machines for PC's
10.) Satellite Communications
11.) Tower Falls
12.) Tower Safety and Basics
These are some great ideas for future programs, and we will see what we can do about getting some if not all of these worked into our upcoming meetings.
Next Months Program
Tentatively next months program is going to have a guest speaker. Scott Ausbrooks will be giving us a program on earthquake detection and some tips. Below is a short introduction to Scott and his qualifications.
Scott Ausbrooks
Registered Professional Geologist, earthquakes, septic systems.
Activities: Scott has been attending town meetings in northeast
Arkansas relating to potential earthquake impacts to citizens in
that portion of the state. He and Bill Prior have a joint project
concerning northeast Arkansas geologic mapping. Scott is also
involved in a project with ADEM to create an earthquake awareness
educational video. He has been working with the AHTD on a landslide
that is impacting Interstate 30 near Malvern and is preparing a
karst map of Arkansas as part of the National Karst Map by the USGS.
Upcoming Events.
Faulkner Co. Fair Parade. Volunteers are needed for the Faulkner Co. Fair Parade. This is a nice event for the FCARC, and all of the help we can get is needed. The parade will be on Tuesday September 16th. Initial parade setup usually starts around 2:00pm and the parade starts about 5:00pm. As usual, our help will be needed in watching the crowd, and making sure that nobody needs assistance. Also during setup times, we help to direct people on where different organizations/floats are located. If you can help, please let me (Frankie K5FRP) or Glenn (N5GK) know.
Big Dam Bridge 100
The BDB 100 bicycle tour will be Saturday September 27th. Once again the FCARC has been asked to help with this event as a large portion of the routes are in Faulkner Co. I have a couple of volunteers already, but many more a needed in order to cover the routes. This year they routes are going to split for the 75 and 100. I will have more information on this in the upcoming weeks.
