Election Of Club Officers
It was that time of year to elect officers for the 2008 year. Frankie Parks, the club's current President, presided over the election. Here are the results.
The first office up was secretary/Treasurer. Chester Robinson nominated Craig Mangrum. Glenn King moved the nominations cease and all were in favor of Craig keeping this office.
The next office was Vice President. Wayne Johnston was asked if he was willing to keep this office another year. He agreed. Glenn King moved nominations cease and all were in favor of Wayne keeping this office.
The final office was for President. Frankie agreed he would stay on for another year. Glenn King moved the nominations cease and all were in favor of Frankie being our 2008 President.
Service Event Shirts & Certificates
Several of our club's members helped the CAREN club in Little Rock with service events this past year. T-shirts and certificates from those events were presented to the following members. Wayne Johnston, Perry Carleton, Robert Carroll, Roger Williamson, Bill McEntire, Glenn King, Bob Hambuchen, and Jim Grinder.
Club Dues & ARES Commitment Forms
Starting with this month's, December's, meeting, Craig Mangrum will start taking dues for the year 2008. Dues need to be paid no later than the February 12th meeting if you want to stay on the club roster and continue to receive emails. Information on how you can send in your club dues are on the club's website at www.w5auu.org.
Craig also passed out ARES Commitment forms. ARES is a voluntary emergency communications group. Those willing to serve in this group need to be a licensed amateur and have taken the Incident Command System courses 100 and 700. Each member can take these courses in a matter of a few hours online. The courses can be found on the club's website or at http://training.fema.gov/IS/NIMS.asp. Each member only needs to take courses IS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System and IS-700 National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction. All other courses are optional at this time.
Open Floor Discussion
Wayne Johnston asked for everyone to be thinking and to submit ideas to him about programs they would like to see in the 2008 year. Jim Grinder suggested more about solar power.
Perry Carleton brought up a subject that a few members have been discussing. What are the protocols that the club would use if there were an emergency? What repeater(s) would be in use? What simplex frequency? Glenn King stated that the club's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) would answer this but that they were still not completed. Craig Mangrum mentioned that he and Perry had talked about this subject some. Craig stated he had a list of things that he had questions and ideas about. Craig stated that he would send that information to the officers.
Ken Chafin asked about the club's identification badges. Ken had not gotten one for the year. Frankie stated that several hadn't picked up their badges. Also, the cost of the badges, the initial information gathering, and the updating of members' qualifications played a huge role in the production of the badges. Some badges were made but then some members updated their qualifications. The reprinting of the badges was delayed and it was decided to await the 2008 year to print up new badges for everyone. Craig Mangrum will be taking over the database of all the qualifications of club members. Please email any information to Craig.
Frankie asked if the members would like to have their photos updated this coming year. Most agreed they would like to do so. It was agreed that photos will be taken at the January meeting.
Glenn King mentioned that he had been appointed by the Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC) to be chairman over a team consisting of the police and fire departments and the mayors of the county. Part of Glenn's duties will be holding table top exercises. He stated that the club does need to have a representative at the meetings and exercises. No representative was decided on.
Frankie mentioned that on the past Saturday, December 8th, the club went up to the ADEM site and removed all of its belongings. The ADEM site is up for sale. The new site is located at Camp Robinson. The club members took down a 30 foot crankup tower, two 13-element beam antennas that are stackable, and a lot of cable and coax. A special thanks to Bill McEntire for climbing the tower.
George Carroll stated that the 147.030 repeater was down at this time. A controller card is thought to be loose. Glenn and George are planning to go up and fix the problem this week.
There will be no lunch at Smitty's BBQ on December 28th. Darrel said he will be closed from the 22nd of December until January 4th. Everyone agreed that Shorty's would be a good location for lunch on that date.
