Super Session
There is a Super Session that will be held on January 12th and 19th. This is a two day class. The place it is to be held has not been decided yet. That information will be sent out as it becomes available.
George Carroll is going to get in touch with Blake Cole with the Boys Scouts so he can see if there are any scouts that wish to take the class. Also, Glenn King has been in touch with the Conway fire department about this event.
Repeaters
Glenn King didn't have any news on the repeaters. But Glenn does have a large supply of Anderson Power Poles. If anyone wishes to get some of them, they are $8.00 a bag and you need to contact Glenn.
December Meeting
Craig Mangrum reminded everyone that at December's meeting, the club will hold its annual elections and start taking dues for the year 2008. Dues need to be paid no later than February's meeting if you want to stay on the club roster and emails. Information on how you can send in your club dues are on the club's website at www.w5auu.org.
Program--Echolink and other Voice over Internet Protocols (VoIP)
We had another great program of our meeting this month. Wayne Johnston introduced the program and passed out some handouts. (The handouts will available on the website shortly.) Then George Carroll and Nate Duncan spoke about their uses and the abilities of some VoIP's.
The following is from Wayne's notes that were included in the meeting agenda.
VoIP--Voice over Internet Protocols for ham radio. Most everything you want to know about calling the world from your HT. George, W5GHC, and Nate, W5CND, will answer all your questions about how to hook up your radios to distant repeaters using the internet. Here are some examples:
A. Did you know that there is a ham radio directory that will let you call over 1,800 hams in the USA using your HT and a laptop as a reliable method for point-to-point communications without regard for propagation limitations? Yep, and it is called Echolink!
B. How did George, W5GHC, use his HT and an Australian repeater to talk with an Aussie ham driving around Sydney? Echolink!
C. How did hams in Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia (and any ham driving around the city of Atlanta) converse on the South BEARS net (Baptist Food Kitchen folks) on Sunday? They did it with Echolink!
D. How does Nate's dad in California call him for a scheduled QSO by remotely accessing the radio in Conway? By using Echolink!
E. What is IRLP? What is WIRES? What about Echolink?
Thursday Night Net
Wayne Johnston, KD4TA, will be the Net Control Operator for the Faulkner Co. Amateur Radio Club Net on Thursday nights for the month of December. The net meets each Thursday at 7:30 P.M. on 145.210- MHz with a PL Tone of 114.8Hz. Please make note of this and come join in!
Craig Mangrum made a motion to adjourn and it was seconded by Don Bollman. The meeting adjourned at 19:15.
Reminder
Don't forget about lunches at Smitty's BBQ in Conway on Fridays at around 11:00 am till we leave.
