Field Day Results
The FCARC field day was a success this year. We had 622 points and ranked #1 in the 1F category.
Emergency Exercise
Glenn King mentioned that the director of the Conway Emergency Communications Center wants to have an emergency exercise with the club at some point. Glenn said the hospital is going to do an exercise but is not sure when. He said that the next Local Emergency Planning Commission is having a meeting next Tuesday, November 15th. The time of the meeting should at 2 PM. Craig Mangrum and Ken Chafin have volunteered to go to the meeting in Glenn's absence to find out when this exercise is planned. The plan is to have the club, hospital, emergency communications center, and MEMS involved in the same exercise. More information to come.
Repeater Antennas
Glenn King is working on an antenna DB225 for the repeater. He said he was about half way done.
Power Supply
Glenn Purchased a new power supply for the repeaters on the north ridge of town. The club reimbursed him for the cost.
Jamboree On The Air (JOTA)
JOTA was October 15th and 16th. Glenn King, Craig Mangrum, Roger Williamson, Daniel Gladstone, and Jon McFadden participated in this event. We had a pretty good time doing this event.
The Blueprint
Craig Mangrum presented a volunteer idea to the club last month. The Log Cabin newspaper has started a year long program called The Blueprint. The idea behind this program is to help build a closer community through volunteering services. The will have a list of those that need volunteers and those that are willing to volunteer their services.
Craig suggested that the club put a small, free ad on the groups willing to provide services. The club was in favor of doing this with the condition that if we retain the right to turn down some organizations if we become spread to thin.
So far, here is the ad that Craig has prepared.
"The Faulkner County Amateur Radio Club uses amateur radio for communications. We are willing to provide our communications services to the community and local organizations that organize walks, runs, marathons, and parades. The club will do this on a first come first serve bases, and reserves the right to deny its services when conflicting events arise.
The club also does testing each month at their local meetings for those interested in amateur radio. For more information about the club or to contact the club, go to www.w5auu.org."
Please give feed back on this article. If you have any ideas on how to word something better or what other activities we can do, please email Craig.
Tower Party - Jim Grinder, N5TSG
The club recently helped Jim Grinder take down a crank-up tower from Bill Saunders and move it to his house. There were several members that showed up and helped. The day went well with few injuries (sorry Frankie), and everyone had fun.
Jim was especially grateful for all the help.
