Old Business
Arkansas Traveler 100
Jim Grinder joined the CAREN group of volunteers to help with communications for the Arkansas Traveler 100 race. Jim said it was a really good event and recommends that anyone that can help with this race in the future to do so.
Fair Parade
The fair parade was a success again this year. The club had around 18 volunteers show up to help. There were a few problems with communications at first, but the club over came and did a great job. There were a few emergencies but nothing major to our knowledge.
(JOTA) Jamboree On The Air
JOTA is coming up this weekend, October 15, 2005. Our primary responsibility this year is a HF and 2 meter station that will be setup at the Faulkner Co. Museum. We need to be ready to start around 9am. So we need everyone that can to come and help setup starting at 8am and we will be there as late as 5pm. The scouts may not arrive till around 10:00 to 2:00. Exact times are just not possible to pinpoint at this time due to transportation variables. Volunteers include: Glenn King, Perry Carleton, Roger Williamson, Jim Grinder, Daniel Gladstone, and Craig Mangrum.
Jon McFadden mentioned that a group, Jim Blackmon, K5VZ, from Little Rock will be bringing a RV or travel trailer and setting up at the University Church of Christ on Friday 14. The will need some help setting up around 3pm. Glenn King, Jim Grinder, and Craig Mangrum volunteered to help them get setup. They will also need some volunteers to help break down on Sunday morning 16. We do need some volunteers for this. They do not know what time they will need help.
There will be a special event station that the group from Little Rock will be working. The event will take place around 8pm on the 15.
New Business
The Blueprint
Craig Mangrum presented a volunteer idea to the club. The Log Cabin newspaper has started a year long program called The Blueprint. The idea behind this program is to help build a closer community through volunteering services. The will have a list of those that need volunteers and those that are willing to volunteer their services.
Glenn King had mentioned after the fair parade that he would like for the club to start doing a few more public service events such as charity walks and runs.
Craig suggested that the club put a small, free ad on the groups willing to provide services. The club was in favor of doing this with the condition that if we retain the right to turn down some organizations if we become spread to thin.
Craig will prepare the ad and run it by the club officers before placing the ad.
CAREN Club / All State Hamfest
Several club members attended the CAREN club's All State hamfest in September. It was a lot of fun and several members went home with some new toys and a lot less money.
Chester made a motion to adjourn. Jim Durham and Gerald Hogue seconded it.
Meeting adjourned at 19:15
Don't forget about lunches at Smitty's BBQ on Fridays at around 11:00 am till we leave.
