Technical Presentation

For our technical presentation, Ken Chafin brought a 1/2 wave 2 meter portable dipole antenna. It is made by using the 19" of the center wire and 19" of the braided coax. The braided part is folded back onto the coax outer insulation. The center wire is left unshielded and has a piece of twine tied to the top which has a loop or hook with the remainder of the twine so it can be hoisted into a tree or hung wherever needed. Below the braided coax, the coax is looped around the hand 4 times to make a RF choke. The other end of the coax has a connector of your choice. This would be an ideal antenna for emergency situations.

Field Day 2004, June 26th-27th

Next we discussed field day. Since Glenn King is tied up with a major work related project, Frankie Parks is coordinating the event. We discussed the location we would setup. The club decided to stay with the idea of using the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) facilities on top of the hill on Donaghey Avenue. We also discussed the times of operation. It was decided that we would run the entire duration of field day, 1pm Saturday June 26 - 1pm Sunday June 27. Frankie passed around a sign up sheet, which was broken down into two-hour slots. Most members signed up for 1 or 2 slots. Several volunteered to be present most of Saturday to help setup, operate, log, and do what ever else is needed. The club will purchase drinks and food for the event. There are still slots available for operation. If you can come out and give us a hand, that would be great. You can e-mail or call Frankie to sign up for a slot. Frankie will also have the sign up sheet at lunch for the next several weeks.

Renewed Membership to Arkansas Repeater Council

Glenn announced that he had renewed the club's membership dues for the Arkansas Repeater Council. He asked for the club to reimburse him for those dues paid. A motion was made and passed.

New Club Officer Secretary/Treasurer

Club Secretary/Treasurer Dianne King has decided to retire from office. In a recent Friday luncheon, President Chester Robinson, N5MEF, had suggested appointing Craig Mangrum to fill the remainder of the term. Vice President Kelly Boswell brought forth this suggestion to the body as a whole, asking for the blessing of the club. Jim Grinder so moved, Perry Carleton seconded, and the motion was carried.

The meeting was adjourned at 19:27
